Profile: Architectural ensemble, lapidarium, history, monumental art.
The Royal Court represents the best kept medieval auditorium ensemble from the romanian teritory
and has functioned with intermission for more than three centuries (1396-1714) as a residence and
a royal throne.
The main monuments:The Great Royal Church, Chindia Tower, The Royal Palace, St. Friday Church
and Balasa House.
The Museum of History
Functions in the former building of the court house, an architecural monument raised in 1902. The
museum includes collections of archaeological and historical pieces which reflects the evolution of
the county and town of Targoviste's teritory starting from prehistory to the modern age. Besides the
basic exhibition, the museum yearly organizes temporary exhibitions in the spaces from the ground
floor, as well as conferences, symposia and spectacles.
The Museum of Printing and Old Romanian Book
Profile: printing and old book history
Functions in the building of the Stolnic Constantin Cantacuzino's family, raised in the second half
of the 17th century. Targoviste represented for the romanian culture the first typographical center,
with large spreading in the country and outside it. The museum presents in its exhibition, religious
and laical type books, documents and manuscripts, the first journals in romanian language and
instrumentation typical to the printing machines.
The "Gheorghe Petrascu" House-Atelier
Profile: memorial
In the private residence where he spend a major part of his life (1922-1942) was restructured in
1972 the studio of one of the great artist of the paint brush, Gheorghe Petrascu (1872-1949). The
atmosphere revived by the personal objects, old furniture, painting works, engraving works and
drawings belonging to the artist. Among the paintings we can distinguish "Marine in Venice",
"The pot with zinnias", "Atelier in Targoviste", etc.
The Museum of Dambovita's Writers
Profile: literary history
A series of romanian writers and poets were directly connected with the city - the capital of the
Romanian Country. Maybe representatives of the Vacarescu family, maybe Vasile Carlova, Grigore
Alexandrescu, Ion Heliade Radulescu, Ion Ghica, I.C. Vissarion so on, they illustrate in a distinct
museum the creed of the premodern generations, of the 1848 revolution. A great diversity of objects,
documents, books, pictures assure us of the horizon and work of these creators.
"Stelea" Galleries
Profile: art exhibitions (painting, sculpture).
"Stelea" Galleries are located in the building of the former Museum of the town Targoviste raised by
the architect Nicolae Ghika - Budesti and inaugurated in 1938 by Nicolae Iorga, space which became
an Archaeology museum through rearrangement until 1986. From the original collection, inaugurated in
January 1944, the Lapidarium collection installed in the peristyle has preserved. Presently, the space
is especially arranged for temporary exhibitions.
The "Vasile Blendea" Museum

Organized in the "Angela Georgescu" House, a residence characteristic to the 18th century
architecture of Targoviste, built on cellars from the 18th century, renewed in the period 1997 -
2001, the collection Vasile and Emilia Blendea is constituted by works of plastic art (drawings,
manuscripts, family pictures) and was the beneficiary of an important donation made to our
institution by the painter Constantin Blendea, nephew and spiritual son of the master. In his work,
the artist evokes Targoviste with its historical and cultural traditions, houses, people and
places, representing an authentic fresco of the Targoviste atmosphere.
The Museal Collection of Pucioasa
Profile: ethnography.
Organized in the Dobrescu House (a historical monument from the 18th century), the collection
presents ethnographical pieces related to the traditional practices specific to the Pucioasa,
Moroieni, Pietrosita, Runcu, Raul-Alb and Valeni Dambovita area. The wooden items (house pillars,
bottom drawers, puppeteers), textiles (carpets, towels, costumes), give a distinct artistic tone,
characterizing the ethnographical particularity of northern Dambovita.
The village museum of Pietrosita
Profile: ethnography and history.
Initiated by the teacher D. Ulieru, the collection which reunites ethnography and history pieces
is accomodated in an architectural monument, "The Serban Popescu House", built in 1870. We have to
notice the carpets made in Pietrosita, a valuable specialized center.
The "I. L. Caragiale" permanent exhibition
Profile: memorial - literature.
The exhibition reunites a memorial collection - furniture, pictures, books, ornamental art - related
to the life and activity of the illustrious dramatist I. L. Caragiale, borned in this village
(Haimanale - Margineni, presently named I. L. Caragiale).
The museum of the town Moreni
Profile: mixed
The museum of the town Moreni presents a theme gathering objects and pieces illustrating the history
of the town Moreni - the modern and contemporaneous age and the interference with the civilization
and western culture elements. The museum also brings to the public attention an important exhibition
of ethnography.
The "Gabriel Popescu" House-Atelier
Profile: plastic art
The memorial collection - furniture, personal objects, photographs, painting works of the artist
Gabriel Popescu (1866-1937) are presented in the house built by his plans. His work as a great
engraver proves local influence sources, outlined with handicraft and talent.
