The museum of Dambovita writers was inaugurated on the 30th of December 1968 and is accomodated
in the house of the writer I. Al. Bratescu Voinesti, built between 1897 - 1898, "a totally beautiful
novel", as the writer himself confessed.
Structured in many sections, this cultural halidom initiates us in the Middle Age climate when Targoviste
was the first cultural center of the country. Here we can find the first great achievement in Targoviste
"The teachings of Neagoe Basarab to his son Teodosie" - a romanian compilation of the parenetic byzantine
literature. Here, in Targoviste, Balthazar Walther completed the today lost chronicle "The short and true
description of the actions accomplished by Ioan Mihai, the ruler of The Romanian Country, the
overglowing, the overpraised and the overvaliant... " (Gorliz,1599) and Stavrinos wrote in greek the
poem "The braveries of the overdevout and overvaliant Mihai Voievod" (Venice, 1785). During the age of
Matei Basarab, the humanist Udriste Nasturel, translator and protector of the printing is the first
cult versifier, here, in Targoviste, where Petru Cercel exerted his talent of poet-versifier on the
throne of the Basarabs. A second section of the museum presents Ienachita Vacarescu, "the parent of the
romanian grammar", as it was named by Heliade Radulescu, author of the known Will:
"To my descendants Vacaresti
I live you as a legacy
The rising of the romanian language"
And the birth land's glorifying".
These few verses receive the valences of the romanian culture and the writing's victory in the
romanian language.
The museum of Dambovita's writers presents to the visitor books in princeps editions, correspondence,
antique furniture, memorial type objects, pictures, plastic art which fortunately ilustrate the
pencraft, the disquietude of the culture people from these lands.
